Sustainability Webinar Series

Dear colleagues,

The Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists (GHP), as you may know, recognises that the climate emergency and biodiversity loss is a fundamental health threat, with profound effects on local and global economic, social and health wellbeing. In our centenary year, we face urgent challenges which require us to change our practice now – we can’t afford to wait for our 150th anniversary.

When we speak with members, a consistent theme is that of education – members are willing to change but don’t know where to start, both personally and professionally.

In response, we will start our series of environmental sustainability conversations with key leaders in the field. Some of our speakers will come from outside the pharmacy profession – we want you to be inspired by the very best. Environmental sustainability, at its heart, requires a multi-disciplinary approach so we will reflect this in our speakers list.

Our first event of the sustainability webinar series will be a conversation with Dr. Matthew Sawyer, a GP from Darlington. He is an inspirational speaker who will explore carbon literacy and changes we can make, both personally and professionally. We hope you can join us on Thursday evening, 24th November at 7:30pm – you can register here. We will aim to have future events every 2-3 months, avoiding the busy festive periods.

We feel strongly that the Guild has a moral obligation to provide leadership in this field across the pharmacy professions. Some of our events will be open beyond our Guild membership – we hope with wider participation, we can build up momentum for change at local, regional, national and international levels.

We hope to see you at our future events, if you have any suggestions on how we can support you in this area of practice, please contact us at sustainability@ghp.org.uk

Yours, in solidarity,

Barry Melia (Chair of Sustainability )
