Statement: Industrial Action Taken By Other Unions

,

We have published an updated statement (June 2023) to guide members on activities when other unions take industrial action. We publish this alongside legal advice from Unite the Union which goes into further detail about picket lines. We remind members to get in touch with us through the usual channels if any support or further advice is required.

During industrial action undertaken by other unions GHP members are advised to only carry out work that they are qualified, competent and safe to undertake. This work should be contained within their job description and as per contractual agreements with their employer.

To undertake roles outside these would constitute a risk to member liability arrangements and patient safety in circumstance of adverse event.

It is unacceptable for employers to pressure members to work additional hours. To do so would intentionally undermine lawful industrial action taken by other staff. With current pharmacy staffing challenges it is unlikely that any additional capacity will be available to realise this.

We encourage members to get in touch with their Regional Member or any other member of Guild council if they have any concerns or require support.

Industrial action is always a last resort for any healthcare professional.
