Professor Mike Cullen RIP

The Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists was saddened to learn of the recent death of Professor Mike Cullen, former GHP President (1984 -85).  Prof Cullen was not only an active GHP Council member and President, he was also a co-founder of the United Kingdom Clinical Pharmacy Association (UKCPA) and a life-long advocate for pharmacists’ education and training, always keen to try innovative methods to inspire future pharmacy practice.

In his career, Mike achieved many accolades; he was Pharmaceutical Officer for Derbyshire Area Health Authority, Vice President of the European Association of Hospital Pharmacists (EAHP), founding Dean of the Faculty of Health and Community studies at Derby University, Dean of Flexible and Distance Learning at Derby amongst others.  Prof Cullen’s vision and tireless work ethic served to lay the foundations of what we accept as standard clinical pharmacy practice (for the whole pharmacy team) across the UK, and he is an inspiration to all of us who follow in his footsteps.

His legacy of innovation, reflection and hard work will live on in our pharmacy practice, thank you Mike.

He will be sadly missed, and our thoughts are with his wife Celia and his family.
