Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacists and Preceptorship

The Guild would like to draw attention to Paragraph 1.8 of the Agenda for Change agreement that allows staff joining the service at pay band 5 to have accelerated pay progression through the first 2 points of the pay scale in 6 monthly steps (that is, they will move up 1 pay point after 6 months) providing those responsible for the relevant standards in the organisation are satisfied with their standard of practice. This is known as preceptorship. “It is the view of the Guild that this applies to pre-registration trainee pharmacist posts within the NHS. Therefore, providing the pre-registration tutor is satisfied with the pre-registration trainee pharmacist’s progress at 6 months (following the 6 month appraisal) they should move up to the next pay point for band 5,” commented Dave Thornton, Chair of Terms and Conditions for the Guild.
