Responsible Pharmacist and hospital pharmacy
From 1st October 2009 the Responsible Pharmacist regulations come in to force. These regulations apply to all pharmacy premises registered with the RPSGB. Advice has been published for chief pharmacists and is available via www.rpsgb.org.uk outlining the activities that require registration with the RPSGB or a wholesaler dealer’s licence from MHRA. The regulations define a new role of responsible pharmacist who will have clear legal responsibilities under these regulations. Pharmacists that are designated as the responsible pharmacist at any time should ensure that this new role is clearly identified in their job description. Dave Thornton, Chair of GHP Terms and Conditions committee, said ‘the advice to our members is clear, if you are acting as the responsible pharmacist whilst providing registerable activities (including whilst you are on call), you should ensure that this role is recognised within your current job description’.
